Hidalgo Medical Services Participates in CMS Quality Measure Review
January 12, 2026HMS Highlights Impact of New Mexico’s Rural Health Care Delivery Funds
Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) is proud to highlight the significant, measurable impact of the New Mexico Rural Health Care Delivery Funds, which have strengthened healthcare access, expanded critical services, and supported innovative solutions for rural communities across Grant and Hidalgo Counties. These investments directly address longstanding social, geographic, and economic barriers to care in one of New Mexico’s most underserved regions.
Through this funding, HMS has advanced several essential initiatives, including expanded neuropsychological testing services and the development of new transportation services to ensure equitable access to care. These two services are available now, and HMS is working on three additional services for this region as well, with mobile crisis response, a mobile health unit, and a dental unit.
The Rural Health Care Delivery Funds are supporting HMS in ensuring continued access to specialized neuropsychological testing for patients throughout Hidalgo, Grant, and surrounding counties. HMS previously had to refer patients to distant specialists—some requiring over four hours of travel and facing waitlists for up to a year. The addition of in-house neuropsychological services has drastically improved access, reducing wait times to just a few weeks while allowing patients to receive evaluation and care within their local community. These services play a vital role in accurate diagnosis, care planning, and improved patient outcomes, especially for populations disproportionately affected by behavioral health disparities. The Rural Health Care Delivery Funds help sustain these services.
Additionally, the funding supports the new service of HMS’s patient transportation services, which has increased access to healthcare throughout Grant and Hidalgo Counties. HMS started providing transportation on December 8, 2025, to ensure that residents—particularly those facing significant mobility and economic barriers—can reach medical, behavioral health, and dental appointments without delay. These services address one of the most significant social determinants of health in the region, where many families lack reliable transportation or the financial means to travel long distances for care. The expansion of transportation services directly aligns with HMS’s mission to reduce health disparities and improve timely access to treatment for rural residents.
HMS remains deeply grateful for the continued support from the Rural Health Care Delivery Fund, the statewide commitment to expanding critical rural health services. The funding empowers HMS to advance its mission and to continue strengthening healthcare infrastructure in partnership with state leadership and community stakeholders.
Hidalgo Medical Services extends its appreciation to the New Mexico Health Care Authority, the Office of the Governor, and all partners committed to advancing health equity across rural New Mexico. These investments ensure that essential services—such as neuropsychological testing, mobile crisis response, transportation, and expanded primary and dental care—remain accessible to those who need them most.

“We extend our gratitude to the Governor and the Legislature for their vision and support in expanding healthcare access in rural New Mexico, as well as to the Health Care Authority for administering the funding and providing programmatic oversight,” states Dan Otero, HMS CEO.
