Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) provides scheduled and/or on-demand transportation services for HMS established patients to and from their scheduled appointments at HMS and other contracted provider partners. Services include non-emergency healthcare transport as authorized by the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Patient Transportation Information

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Must have received services from HMS within the last three years. (Must be an established HMS patient in any service line).

  • Have an expressed transportation need with the inability to obtain otherwise.

  • Must live within the HMS service area and access care at the nearest clinic offering the needed service.

    • The HMS service area encompasses Grant County and Hidalgo County based on the transportation location schedule.

  • If transportation services are offered by another HMS program that the patient receives services from (e.g., Comprehensive Community Support Services, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, etc.), the patient will be expected to utilize the transportation services offered by that program.

  • Patients with access to transportation services through their insurance and/or other community programs are eligible for HMS transportation services. Priority will be given to patients without access to these additional services. (Contact information listed below)

  • Patients who are minors will be transported only with the accompaniment of a parent or legal guardian.

What Services You Will Receive: 

The HMS Transportation Program will provide established HMS patients with reliable, safe, and compassionate transportation to and from their scheduled HMS medical, behavioral health, dental, and family support appointments.

What You Need to Know: 

  • We do not offer emergency medical transportation or ambulatory services.

  • We ask that patients allow up to 72 hours prior to your appointment to request transportation services. HMS will do our best to accommodate any transportation request, but please avoid last-minute transportation requests.

  • Destinations and schedules vary.

  • If you experience an emergency, please call 911.

  • We are adequately equipped to provide services for disabled and senior individuals.

Hours of Operation:

Services will operate according to the following schedule:
- Monday through Friday (Pick up and drop off times may vary depending upon patient location.) 
- Saturday and Sunday: Closed
